Intense Incense is a jazz/folk duo from the beautiful high mountain town of Durango, CO. The group consists of Emily Winter (Violin/Viola/Vocals) and Michael Todd (Piano/Keyboard/Vocals). Intense Incense strives to provide light-hearted and fun music from multiple genres and styles. The two musicians met in 2015 at the Fort Lewis College Music Department in Durango and quickly became partners in life as well as music. While in college, the pair fell in love with jazz music and took many college classes on jazz performance, theory and history. Both Michael and Emily were members of different bands, but in 2018 they decided to create a duo group in order to write and perform songs influenced by jazz and acoustic genres. Their mutual love for music and adventure is evident in their work. An evening with Intense Incense is the perfect way to relax, enjoy a martini or a glass of wine and relish in life's simple pleasures.

ABOUT THE BAND

Emily Winter is a Colorado native, originally from Fort Collins, CO. She moved to Durango in 2011 to pursue a degree in engineering with a minor in music from Fort Lewis College. In 2012, she co-founded the high-energy, nationally touring jam band Liver Down the River. After graduating college in 2016, she devoted her time to touring full time with her band and working on various production projects in the Four Corners area. She began playing the violin when she was very young and the viola in high school. Emily was classically trained all her life until she enrolled in college and discovered new worlds of jazz, bluegrass, funk, and rock in the musically diverse town of Durango. She still enjoys playing viola in classical settings and played for the Fort Lewis College Chamber Orchestra and San Juan Youth Symphony for 5 years. Most of her time is spent writing music that bridges the gap between genres and paints vivid pictures with her poetic lyrics and unique chord progressions.

Michael Todd moved to Colorado from Texas in 2014. He enrolled in Fort Lewis College to pursue a degree in music business and graduated in 2018. He has played with several groups in the Durango area including Alex Blocker Band and Liver Down the River . Michael has also led and directed several musical groups and weekly sessions such as Jazz Church and Funk Night at the Starlight Lounge in Durango CO. Michael played classical piano and quints in marching band back in East Texas. He is an avid fan of funk, pop, and rock n' roll and sometimes participates in dueling pianos shows in the Four Corners area. Michael played piano for the Fort Lewis College Jazz Band and Concert Band for three years and has performed many solo gigs around Durango. His powerful, funky tenor and flawless falsetto blends well with Emily's softer and soulful voice and brings a fun, unique energy to every song he sings.
